Tarrant County Elected Officials Endorse Roger Williams for Senate

All-star group of local leaders says Washington needs Roger's business leadership

Fort Worth, Texas – Nine prominent Tarrant County elected officials today endorsed former Texas Secretary of State Roger Williams for the United States Senate. These leaders praised Roger's business experience and his plans for turning around the economy. The Tarrant County elected officials join Congresswoman Kay Granger, who announced her support of Roger in the Spring.

The nine elected officials endorsing Roger are:

  • Glen Whitley, Tarrant County Judge
  • Dee Anderson, Tarrant County Sheriff
  • Betsy Price, Tarrant County Tax Collector/Assessor
  • Tom Wilder, Tarrant County District Clerk
  • Gary Fickes, County Commissioner
  • JD Johnson, County Commissioner
  • Mike Moncrief, Mayor of Fort Worth
  • Oscar Trevino, Mayor of North Richland Hills
  • Jungus Jordan, Fort Worth City Council

"Roger Williams is the business candidate who will fight against higher taxes and more government," said Judge Glen Whitley. "With unemployment high and economic growth low, we need a business leader in the Senate."

"I have known Roger for 50 years and I know he will be a great senator because he is a great leader," said Betsy Price. "Roger brings years of experience as a leader in the private sector. That's why he will make a great leader in the public sector."

"Roger will do whatever it takes to keep our borders safe," said Sheriff Dee Anderson. "As a senator, he will be a constant ally for law enforcement." "I'm honored to be endorsed by this team of all-star elected officials," Roger said in accepting the endorsement. "These folks know that what we need in Washington is the same thing they provide in Tarrant County: leadership. As a senator, I will work closely with all of them to improve our economy and keep our country safe."

Roger Williams entered the campaign for the United States Senate on December 12, 2008. Williams is a former professional baseball player and former college head coach, he is best known for his 37 years as a successful businessman and as Texas' 105th Secretary of State. As Secretary of State, Williams worked tirelessly to promote economic development, investment and job creation across Texas. He also served as the state's Chief Liaison for Texas Border and Mexican Affairs as well as Chair of the state's 2005 Base Realignment and Closure Response Strike Force. Williams' civic activities include serving on the Board of Trustees for the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University. Williams is also a member of the Texas Christian University Board of Trustees, his alma mater. He also serves on the National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame Board of Directors as well as serving on the Admiral Nimitz Foundation Board of Directors in Fredericksburg, Texas. Williams and his wife, Patty, reside in Weatherford and have two daughters.
