Statement on Senator Arlen Specter’s Party Switch
Senator Specter’s decision is a victory of politics over principle. This reminds all Texans that when we select our next Senator, it should be someone who is motivated by and grounded in a solid conservative philosophy.
Today is a sad day for America. A liberal president now has a filibuster proof majority. This will be bad for our economy, dangerous for our national security and destructive to our values. Texas does not need a politician for our next Senator. We cannot have someone who is trained only to say what people want to hear. We need someone who says what they mean and means what they say. We need more senators who will put the nation’s future ahead of their own political future. If that is our choice, Texans will avoid the fate of the Pennsylvania voters who voted for one set of values and suddenly found they have something very different representing them.
