Let’s Protect America

Updates from Roger

On Christmas Day, we saw the face of evil. Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, an al Qaeda-trained terrorist, tried to detonate a bomb on an airline.

But that same day, we also saw the face of courage. It was shown by those on the plane who subdued the terrorist and stopped the attack.

This episode provided an important wake-up call for America. Despite what the Obama administration implies, wars are not won with words and terrorists are not defeated by good intentions. Today, terrorism is on the march. And we have to meet it with courage and commitment.

That's why today I call on the Obama administration to suspend its plans to release the remaining terrorists being held at Guantanamo. The release of these terrorists may win the president some favorable press around the world, but it will not win the War on Terror. Evidently, the al Qaeda operatives who launched this attack are based in Yemen. Today there are 95 Yemeni terrorists at Guantanamo. A Pentagon report shows that twenty percent of those already released from Guantanamo have returned to militancy.1 Why should we release prisoners just to see them rejoin terrorists in the War on Terror?

Let's stop stop the politics of good intentions and make national lsecurity our first priority. Let's protect America. And let's go after the terrorists and make this world a safer, better place.
