Harry Reid’s Bad Medicine

Updates from Roger
by Roger Williams

So what does Democratic Majority Leader Harry Reid say with public opposition growing against his government-run health care plan?

He accuses Republicans of using the same rhetoric used by those opposed to ending slavery and creating civil rights.

Incredible! Rather than address the facts, he attacks his opponents with outrageous claims.

Here are the facts:

  • At a time that we have double-digit unemployment, Washington Democrats have chosen to focus on creating government-run health care instead of jobs.
  • At a time of record deficits, Washington Democrats have chosen to dramatically increase the deficit and the national debt.
  • And a time when government is doing a poor job of taking care of its basic responsibilities, Washington Democrats have put forward a plan to have government take over health care.

No wonder Senator Reid is lashing out at Republicans—he's losing the debate.

He's losing it because the American people know we must reform health care; but they also understand that we must do it the right way.

  • Reforming health care means letting health care plans compete across state lines. Yet Washington Democrats oppose it.
  • Reforming health care means letting individuals use pre-tax dollars to purchase their own health insurance and keep it with them as they change jobs. Yet Washington Democrats oppose it.
  • And reforming health care means lowering costs by ending frivolous lawsuits against doctors. Yet Washington Democrats oppose it.

These are simple, common sense solutions that would work. Instead, Washington Democrats push a plan that won't work, costs too much and makes health care more expensive and less available.

As your U.S. Senator, I will work hard to first and foremost support policies that will create jobs. Then, I will work to create a health care system that will empower YOU and not your government.
